Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
